July 2013

July was not July.  The month started very, very wet.  The first day of July had torrential rainfall.  In Reily, over 1.5 inches of rain fell in about an hour; to the south, there was even more rain.  Many roads suffered flash flooding and homes were flooded as well.  Despite the wet weather, the wheat field behind the house was harvested on July 3, due to more anticipated heavy rain (which did not occur).  The field was so wet from the July 1 rainfall that some of it could not be harvested, and the combine tore up the field to a degree.

The middle of July was more typical with hot humid temperatures.  However, the temperature never got above the low 90s.  Overall, there still seemed to be more rain than normal.  July ended much cooler than typical.  The third week in July is the average hottest week of the year, but record low temperatures were recorded that week - more akin to late September.
